We weigh more at the poles, but not by much. There are two different effects and both are due to the spin of the Earth. Firstly centrifugal force reduces your body weight by about 0.4 per cent at the equator relative to its weight at the poles. Secondly, the planet’s spin causes the Earth to bulge around the equator, so that you’re about 21km further from the Earth’s centre of gravity, making you weigh around 0.1 per cent less. Overall you weigh around 0.5 per cent less at the equator – about a pound for most of us.
